David J. Skal is widely recognized as one of the world’s leading horror historians, and the author of several critically-acclaimed books including HOLLYWOOD GOTHIC, THE MONSTER SHOW, SCREAMS OF REASON, DARK CARNIVAL, V IS FOR VAMPIRE and is additionally co-editor of the Norton Critical Edition of Bram Stoker’s DRACULA. As a documentary filmmaker, he wrote, produced, and directed the behind-the-scenes chronicle of the Academy Award winning film GODS AND MONSTERS, as well as a dozen DVD and Blu-ray features for the Universal Studios horror and science fiction classics. He has taught courses based on his books at the University of Victoria and Trinity College Dublin, and has lectured internationally at major universities and cultural institutions. His most recent book, SOMETHING IN THE BLOOD: THE UNTOLD STORY OF BRAM STOKER was a finalist for the 2017 Edgar Award. A two-time winner of the Rondo Hatton Classic Horror Award, he has also been nominated for the Hugo Award and the Bram Stoker Award. He lives and writes in Glendale, California.
