Roberta Gregory

San Diego Comic Fest guest Roberta GregoryRoberta Gregory has been involved with comics all her life, since her father, Bob, wrote and drew for Disney comics. Growing up, she made up and illustrated stories of her own, and her first published work appeared in 1973.

Her first comic story was published in Wimmen’s Comix in 1974, and she has been busy ever since, contributing to anthologies like Tits & Clits and Gay Comix during the 70s and 80s, then later publishing her own work, Winging It and Sheila and the Unicorn and the mini series Artistic Licentiousness during the 1990s. She is best known for her 40 issues of Naughty Bits, published by Fantagraphics during the 1990s and early 2000s, starring the notorious Bitchy Bitch, who has appeared in her own animated series, stage productions and weekly strips and has been translated into several languages.

Since then, Roberta has created two more books, Follow Your Art (2010) and True Cat Toons (2014—see truecattoons.com). She has also contributed to countless anthologies, the most recent being the Graphic Canon series. Recently retired from her day job, Roberta hopes to complete more ongoing projects, like the long awaited Bitchy graphic novel, and Mother Mountain. She also wants to try to get more tech savvy. Her badly outdated website, where her work can still be purchased, is at robertagregory.com.
