The San Diego Comic Fest is pleased to announce that Oscar-winning visual-effects pioneer Phil Tippett, winner of Academy Awards for Return of the Jedi and Jurassic Park and founder of leading visual-effects creators Tippett Studio, will be returning to the Fest this year. We’re looking forward to hearing more about his very-personal Mad God project. (Last year Phil successfully funded production of Mad God via Kickstarter, where he was able to raise over three times the amount he was seeking from 2,523 enthusiastic individual backers.)
From his days as a young San Diego filmmaker and student of stop-motion animation, Phil has gone on to an amazing professional career that includes two Academy Awards, 6 Academy Award nominations, 1 BAFTA, 4 BAFTA nominations, and 2 Emmys.
Along the way, Phil Tippett and the studio that bears his name have created visual effects for a remarkable array of fan-favorite films. Among these are Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, Dragonslayer, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, RoboCop, RoboCop 2, RoboCop 3, Willow, Ghostbusters II, Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, Jurassic Park, DragonHeart, Starship Troopers, Armageddon, The Haunting, Bicentennial Man, Mission to Mars, Hollow Man, Evolution, Cats & Dogs, Blade II, Men in Black II, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, The Matrix Revolutions, Hellboy, Constantine, Charlotte’s Web, Enchanted, The Golden Compass, Cloverfield, The Spiderwick Chronicles, The Twilight Saga: New Moon, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, The Smurfs, Immortals, Mirror Mirror, Ted, and the forthcoming films After Earth and Horns.
