Los Angeles native Steven Barnes is a science-fiction author, screenplay writer, lecturer, and accomplished martial artist. His first published work, the 1979 novelette “The Locusts,” written in collaboration with Comic Fest Guest of Honor Larry Niven, was nominated for a Hugo Award.

Since then, Steven has published numerous science-fiction novels and short stories, many also written in collaboration with Larry Niven, including the Dream Park series, the most recent installment of which, The Moon Maze Game, was published in 2011. He has also teamed up with both Larry and fellow Fest guest Jerry Pournelle, to write 1987’s The Legacy of Heorot and its sequel, 1995’s Beowulf’s Children. Steven’s other works include the Aubry Knight series, The Insh’Allah series, the Ibandi series, and the Tennyson Hardwick novels (the latter written with Blair Underwood and Tananarive Due).

Steven has also been active in the world of television. His work that has been produced includes numerous scripts for The Outer Limits (1996-2000), Baywatch, The Twilight Zone (1985-1986), Stargate SG-1, and more.
