In 1975, writer and cartoonist John Holmstrom founded the legendary PUNK Magazine. Its hand-lettered graphics became notorious and helped inspire the fanzine craze. The Best of Punk Magazine was recently published by Harper Collins and was Number One on Amazon’s Punk Books category. He is well known for his t-shirt designs and album cover art for the famed punk pioneers The Ramones, and he has also produced work for Blondie, The Dandy Warhols, Murphy’s Law, and many others.

His artwork has been published in many publications including The Village Voice, High Times, Bananas, Heavy Metal and Video Games. Holmstrom also started the ‘zines Comical Funnies (with Peter Bagge of Hate! comix fame), and STOP! magazine with J.D. King. He’s currently licensing PUNK related artwork in Japan for everything from baby clothes to high-end fashion.

Most recently Holmstrom served as a graphic artist for the “CBGB” feature film which will be released later this year. He has also recently finished a screenplay with Richard Belfiore, titled “Shooting The Pistols,” which chronicles Holmstrom’s first-hand experience touring with The Sex Pistols during their 1978 American tour.
