Diani & Devine Meet the Apocalypse

Directors, writers, and producers Gabriel Diani and Etta Devine will screen and discuss their latest film, Diani & Devine Meet the Apocalypse.

Real life comedy duo and couple Gabriel Diani and Etta Devine play themselves as struggling comedians who learn that surviving the end of civilization is almost as difficult as surviving in Hollywood. When all power and communications mysteriously shut off, Gabe and Etta pack up their troubles and hit the road with their trusty dog Watson and their miserable cat Mrs. Peel in search of a safe haven. It’s like one of those old Hope and Crosby “Road to” movies meets Cormac McCarthy’s The Road. But funnier! Featuring performances by Barry Bostwick (Rocky Horror Picture Show), Janet Varney (Stan Against Evil), Kirsten Vangsness (Criminal Minds), Armin Shimerman (Star Trek: DS9), Jonathan Silverman (Weekend at Bernie’s), and more!

Says the Austin Film Fest Review of Diani & Devine Meet the Apocalypse, “Bad times make for good, subversive comedy, which partly explains why this gleefully absurdist, end-of-the-world, road movie romance works so very, very well on so many levels. The rest of the film’s sneaky, borderline low-key genius is due to the fact that Gabriel Diani and Etta Devine are that rarest of comedy commodities: a perfect team. Envision an alt.universe Hope and Crosby road movie, add a pinch of Six-String Samurai and a momentary bit of inspired Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior lunacy, and underpin it all with the sublime writing chops of Mike Nichols and Elaine May – yes, it’s true, the chemistry is that good – and you’re in the ballpark of their co-starring, co-written, and co-directed codependent comedy of semi-terrors.”
